You see the most beautiful and significant buildings of Freckenhorst – the abbey building of the ladies convent, which whas errected in 1740 and is now the Castle Westerholt, and the romanesque church St. Bonifatius from 1129 with its five towers. These two buildings testify the history of the town beginning from christian proselytizing in the 8. century.
On the left of the castle you see the small gable of the former „Brauhaus“ (brewery) from 1777. The pond in the foreground is the rest of an isle, wich whas sorrounded by a little brook. On this isle there was the fortress oft the knight dynasty „vom Vernhove“. Those noble knights were responsible for the protection of the cloister.
